1¼ cups flour
1½ cups sugar, divided
½ cup unsweetened cocoa, divided
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup milk
3 tablespoons margarine, melted
1½ teaspoons vanilla, divided
1 cup chocolate chips
1¾ cups boiling water
1 tablespoon powdered sugar
Combine flour, ¾ cup sugar, and ¼ cup of cocoa powder, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Add milk, melted margarine and ½ teaspoon of vanilla; stir until smooth. Stir in chocolate chips. Spread batter in pan.
In another bowl whisk together remaining ¾ cup sugar, and ¼ cup cocoa; gradually stir in boiling water and remaining 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Carefully pour evenly over batter.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool 15 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and spoon into dessert dishes. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
